Halloween Sketch Page
Sketchbook Resistance Assemble!
Its Halloween season, and a any activity is good. Lately scattering my art efforts, I must not forget the Sketchbook Resistance.
Here's a mini sketchbook page with 4 little Halloween drawings. I contributed a couple to Bob Learned's Halloween coloring book effort. I scanned, scaled up, and printed the pumpkin, and the mini-death guy in an effort to return to real inking. Little drawings on the mini sketchbook have value for later art activity. Squeezing art time/purpuse from sketches in order to practice, and share. Multi-purpose your drawings. It is a good and wise use of your time.
So, Resistance members, remember: sketchbook and pencil handy at all times, minutes between life activities (we all experience short wait times frequently - use wisely). Look around and you'll find a quick sketch waiting to happen. There's always something to draw.

Goodbye Tatami
Dropping by to upload a bit of mini-sketchbook action. This time, it was done while waiting at a favorite oriental restaurant. Change of owners, and staff, so they made me wait. Kind of a let down. A bit of a story in the Impulsive Sketch Journal And another mini sketch.

Some Conversations
Thought I'd share this one here. After all, the sketchbook found its way under my pencil, supporting the resistance.

Airport People
Sneaked in some sketching while waiting at the airport for my delayed flight last Friday. Noise was hard to avoid, and sitting space hard to find, as with all airports, but the people watching available makes for quite a parade.
Found myself fighting for time to draw (in transit, between flights). That is part of what sketchbook resistance is all about. A little warm-up image follows some traveler's faces.

Be Joyful!
Been awhile, but thought, on this Friday, it was high time for a high five! A lot of our art friends are having a blast on twitter on the hash tag #FearlessFriday we are sharing our fears and how we intend to go about defeating them. My lil work sketchbook is getting really beat up, beginning to look a lot like its owner, but here is an up beat 60s retro pice I hope you'll like

Those little reminders
I have something very special to share, but first, a confession. I lost my temper yesterday. Those of you who have known me for awhile, know how desperately I want to find a means of maintanace through my creativity. It has been an arduous 7 years. Truthfully had I known that I would still be dreaming, I most likely would have never braved this path. I know I've made progress towards my goal, but still the frustration builds. The day job is killing me. I mean that most literally. I've tried really hard not to moan and complain, no one likes to hear us do that, but I must tell you, sparing details, it is getting hard not too.
{que the band playing "Presure" do do do dd do do}
So yes, back to the loss of my temper and the presious thing I wish to share. It was a particularly difficult day yesterday, filled with the frustrations of a million days just like it, all balled up and festered into a big old boil only my butt. The last thing I wanted was for my poor unsuspecting son to lance it. He did. Not that he did anything I shouldn't have easily passed over, it just caught Dad off guard. I lost it. However briefly, yet vigorously. I have a door jam to repair in my wake. And so here is the precious, special, wonderful thing I need to share with you,

After the dust cleared, this is what James handed me.
Even though we may at some times LOSE it, always remember that those we love are the ones who help us find it in the end. and if it wasn't for the ones I love I would have given up long ago.
I love you too son.

Beach People
Some beach folks from last Sunday on a little flip-style sketchbook. Kind of quick sketches all. The three adults caught while in a hot tub (I know. If you have a beach nearby, why are you stewing in the hot tub?). And my daughter testing her underwater skills in the pool.

Pentel Brush Pen
I few months ago I finally tried the Pentel Brush Pen. It has become my favorite tool for gesture drawings, quick storyboards, and loose lively sketching.

Mini Robots on a Mini Sketchbook
This has been one of the busiest work-at-home months I've had. Regardless, some doodling was done. Though only a few pencil scratches at a time, it added up to these two pages on my mini sketchbook. Fond of robots as I am, I thought I would fill some space with mini automata. Hope you like.

Thumbnail resistance
Today I thought I would share an example of a page of thumbnails from Two White Horses. Shows a lot of what goes on in the bean when inspiration is cookin up a stew.

Like Fine Wine... Yea right.
As we get older, we start to notice silly little things about ourselves like, well, hairs growing out of strange places. Along with all the other quirks like liver spots, skin tags and angina.
Also to, the tendency to share this TMI with others.
Resist growing old at any cost.

Coati
Hey everybody! I'm working on a kid's book with a writer from Costa Rica. It is about a young coati's journey through the Costa Rican rain forest. I'm planning on making the final pages super vibrant and colorful!
Memories
Here's a bonus sketch. I was off yesterday, but daily means daily, so I'll have another one to post on my lunch break. Meanwhile, enjoy a couple of memories from my childhood.
